The evaluation and treatment of adult strabismus requires special attention to the presence of double vision and "lazy eye". The adult visual system is very different from that of a child, and requires an added level of expertise. Our office specializes in the identification and treatment of adult ocular misalignment, and uses state of the art examination techniques as well as medical and surgical procedures (i.e. the use of adjustable sutures) to correct the abnormality.
In addition to a complete Ophthalmic evaluation, the adult strabismus consultation includes special emphasis on both the functional aspects of the abnormality as well as our ability to restore the visual system to a normal state of function. Adult strabismus is not a "cosmetic" abnormality in so much that the normal human visual system is designed to work through two eye simultaneously, not through one eye at a time. Our treatment is aimed at restoring this normal condition as closely as is possible.
